Adding water elements to your garden…

There are lots of ways to introduce water into our gardens.

It doesn’t matter whether our outdoor space is small or large, we can all enjoy what a pond will bring. Water elements for the landscape run the gamut of both design and price.

A water element can be as simple and easy to install as a fountain, or as complex as a pond complete with fountain, waterfall and nighttime lighting.

Here are a few ways you can welcome water into your garden.

Ponds:

You can build a pond at any time of year. But in autumn, the ground isn’t too wet or dry, so it’s ideal for digging.

Anyone can bring a watery habitat to their garden, even in the smallest of spaces and it can play host to a huge variety of amazing wildlife.

Water gardens:

Water gardens are living water features, you can fill it with aquatic plants which create colour and texture. Plants, both inside and outside the perimeter of the pond create a lovely natural setting.

Fountains:

You can buy fountains which are easy to set up and install in your garden. They are easy to clean and maintain.

There are so many different designs these days, that it is quite easy to find a style to complement your garden.

Birds, frogs and insects are more likely to frequent your garden when there is always a source of water available.

Streams:

Streams are ideal for meandering along paths, walkways or even pool decks.

Acting as natural filters, streams are often designed to flow into waterfalls and cascade into a pond to help sustain the entire ecosystem of a water feature.

Ornamental pools:

Ornamental pools are generally located near a deck or patio.

They are designed around an ornamental piece like a spouting statue a vertically cascading fountain or a bell fountain.

Fish ponds:

Fish can be added to almost any type of water feature as long as certain life sustaining criteria are met. Gold fish and Koi are common favourites.

The flow of water can be slow or swift, depending on the nature of the setting and the taste of the homeowner. The only limitation to what can be done with these elements is the imagination, and the budget, of the individual.
